IBM Thailand Company Limited September 2015 December 2016
IBM and Kenan partnered in an effort to improve the critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills of Thai science and math students. The Thai Teachers TryScience Project aimed to introduce IBM’s STEM-related, technology-based education resources to the Thai education system and allow IBM Thailand to apply the resources on a larger scale. To achieve this, Kenan Foundation Asia developed existing master teachers and recruited new master teachers from schools in Bangkok and Samut Prakarn province through application of TTS learning materials.
To support teachers’ application of the resources in the classroom, Kenan provides on-site mentorship. In addition, Kenan experts and IBM volunteers lead IBM Bluemix and STEM Caravan events that allow students to perform exciting STEM-based activities and design their own computer applications using IBM’s Bluemix technology.
With the on-site mentorship by Kenan, 30 master teachers from 10 school STEM networks have developed their capacity and provided professional development training (STEM workshop training) to 607 middle school teachers. Equipped with advanced STEM resources and stronger teaching methodologies, Kenan will reach more than 4,000 teachers and 121,400 students in Bangkok and Samut Prakarn province. Furthermore, two STEM caravans were hosted for 209 students, to inspire STEM careers and, IBM’s On Demand Community Grant was launched to support 10 schools to implement their STEM projects.
For IBM STEM innovation and careers in IT business, the project team recruited 50 students and 10 teachers to participate in IBM STEM Innovation and Careers in IT Business activity, introducing STEM related IT careers.
