Here’s How to Make 4th Graders Love Science Class

January 26, 2023

Asking questions, dreaming up experiments, crushing plastic bottles – students in Ms. Salakjit Chuenta’s science class learn by doing, and have a lot of fun along the way.

While rote memorization remains the preferred teaching practice in Thailand, Ms. Salakjit has broken from tradition to provide the fourth graders of Surao Bang Pla School in Samut Prakan with the opportunity to experience hands-on learning.

Through Kenan’s teacher professional development program, Ms. Salakjit mastered the techniques and skills needed to guide her students through experiments in which they apply textbook concepts to real-world situations. This is what a 21st century education is all about – students gaining key skills (such as collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking), building a strong foundation in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) concepts, and developing a love for learning.

“[Students] like to learn through hands-on activities more than in-class learning,” says Ms. Salakjit. “When students begin their experiments, they are always asking questions and excited to find out the answers.”

Ms. Salakjit credits Kenan for helping her and other teachers become 21st century educators because, as she says, “[Kenan] sees value in us, supports us, and inspires us to deliver high-impact learning to students.”

Providing a 21st century education to Thai kids starts with empowering dedicated teachers like Ms. Salakjit. If your company would like to support Thai teachers and transform Thai education, then contact us by completing the form below.
