Funded by USAID, Kenan worked with University Research Co. (URC) to implement the Control and Prevention of Malaria (CAP-Malaria) project that is fighting malaria in Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar through four major components: developing cost-effective ways of preventing disease transmission; improving the quality and effectiveness of facilities treating the disease; increasing the management efficiency of the National Ma- laria Control Program and local institutions; and supporting the establishment and maintenance of strategic information for malaria control. Kenan served as the project’s Thailand implementer and partnered with the Minstry of Health’s Bureau for Vector Borne Disease to increase its capacity to control and prevent malaria.
Major project activities included conducting in-depth interviews and group discussions with villagers and migrant workers, considered key at-risk populations, given their proximity to the Cambodian and Myanmar borders. Kenan engaged the private sector in Trat province to form a public-private alliance to combat the spread of malaria in the workplace. The project advised the BVBD on effectively using the 33 malaria posts established in the first year in high-traffic areas which provide malaria treatment at no cost.
